Five Vastu Interior Design Tips on How to Place Mirrors

If you’re a believer in Vastu Shastra, you know how complicated the process of finding the perfect home is. Many aspects come into play when looking for a Vastu compliant home, and a significant element in Vastu interior design is the mirror.

While being a significant decorative and functional aspect, mirrors hold a lot of value in Vastu Shastra as they’re believed to affect the energies in your home.

How? Mirrors can be a reflective source of positive or negative energy according to their placement. This is believed to impact the health and prosperity of the dwellers.

So if you’re a Vastu believer, you’d know just how vital it is to ensure all the mirrors in your home are placed perfectly and in the right direction.

The Right Mirror Placement According to Vastu Interior Design

Mirrors are not only known to bring wealth and prosperity to your homes but they’re also known to be beneficial for your shop or office.

While the placement of mirrors is known to affect the energy in your house, shop, or office, it is also said that they can not only improve health and prosperity but also diminish negative energy if they’re placed correctly.

Take a look at some tips on how to place mirrors the right way in your space and bring about some positivity as per Vastu interior design:

1. Let Mirrors Reflect What’s Beautiful

If your mirrors happen to reflect cash, food, or a beautiful view, then it means doubling these elements in your life!

This means you should place your mirrors opposite your safe or cashbox to attract more wealth. However, when it comes to business people, this also means attracting more customers. Avoid placing a mirror opposite your work desk as this can increase workload.

If you have a beautiful view outside your window, it would be ideal to have your mirror reflect the view to replicate the positive energy, light, and beauty into your home.

You can also place mirrors in the dining room to reflect the dining table, bringing health, food, good wealth, and positivity. It also enhances your bond with your family.

2. Place Mirrors According to Direction

It is said that the north direction of your house bears the fruit since the north is the centre of Lord Kubera (Kuber)- the god of wealth. Therefore, as per Vastu interior design, placing mirrors in the north direction would be highly beneficial.

The southeast direction is known to represent fire. Therefore, placing mirrors in this direction should be avoided to avoid conflict in your life.

In the bathroom, the mirrors should be placed in the north or east direction as this means removing bad energies and bringing in brightness and positivity.

Mirrors in the bathroom should also be well-lit and should be avoided being placed in darker corners. Placing a mirror directly opposite to the toilet can also increase negative energy.

Mirrors should be placed on the north or east wall and not on the south or west wall.

3. Placing Mirrors in the Bedroom

It is usually advised not to place a mirror in the bedroom to maintain a peaceful environment. But if you choose to install one anyway, these are the Vastu guidelines to follow:

Mirrors in the bedroom should not face the bed or reflect any body parts of the person sleeping on the bed, leading to health issues.

The mirror should also not reflect the entrance of the bedroom. Avoid installing mirrors on the false ceiling as they can cause stress and chaos.

The ideal placement for a mirror in the bedroom as per Vastu interior design would be by the dressing table on the side of the bed, in the north or east direction. This placement is proven to be auspicious.

When not in use, Vastu Shashtra advises covering or concealing the mirror with a cloth.

4. Mirrors According to Shape

Avoid oval, round-shaped, and other irregular shaped mirrors. On the other hand, according to Vastu, square and rectangle-shaped mirrors are suitable for your home and have proven to be auspicious while spreading energies evenly.

If you want to play around with mirrors, you can do so as long as you’re using square and rectangle ones, as there’s no constriction on size.

5. The Don'ts for Placing Mirrors

These are some does and don’ts for placing mirrors as per Vastu interior design:

  • Avoid broken or rusted mirrors as they can cause conflict and stress.

  • Never put two mirrors opposite each other as that can cause anger, irritation, and restlessness.

  • Ensure you have clean mirrors that reflect the image as it is, instead of a distorted version.

  • Do not place mirrors near staircases.

  • Do not place mirrors in the kitchen, especially opposite the stove.

  • Maximum energies enter your house from the main door. This is why your mirrors should not face the house entrance, as they’ll reflect all the bad energies that have entered.

All your mirrors should be placed at least 4 to 5 feet above the ground. It is also believed that convex mirrors reflect powerful negative energy, while concave mirrors absorb negative energy and neutralise it.

Placing a convex mirror above the entryway of your house is a great way to deflect negative energy that may enter your space.

While in other spaces, try using concave mirrors as you’d like the negative energy to be absorbed rather than reflected into your space.
