Rags to Riches: How Hipcouch Transformed Dilapidated London Property into 6 BHK Luxe Abode Remotely

One property, a couple with big dreams, and one firm with a penchant to make dreams come true means a dilapidated London property is now an epitome of modern architecture, and all conceptualised remotely.

Converting a battered British property into a 6 BHK luxury abode from a distance of 7,187 kilometres is, well, challenging. But home is where the heart is, and nothing should come between achieving that ideal home your soul longs.

At Hipcouch, we challenged ourselves to go the extra length for our purpose - ‘you dream, we deliver.’ The result was unthinkable for Kapil and Sweta Bhatia of London: they got their dream home that was almost undreamable.

“(...) we were amazed by their sense of space despite not ever visiting the site. We liked their whole process of approaching and delivering the project,” the Bhatias told Hipcouch in a statement.

“They (Hipcouch) provided the carpenters with detailed drawings, which made things easy for them. We would constantly hear from the joiners/carpenters that we have got a very good set of designers.”

So what was it that made this whole project possible? And how did we do the same? This is the story of the Bhatias who dreamt big, put their trust in us, and the result was nothing short of a dream come true!

How Hipcouch Made the Impossible Possible with this 6 BHK

How many times have you come across a dreary and pathetic property that is falling apart and looks like nothing ever can be done to it? Only suitable for spirits, some would think!

But let's tell you, there is nothing as such.

In fact, as an interior design studio, we believe, old properties and abandoned spaces harbour a discrete life that perhaps a glitzy new property could not hold. Old spaces may have a history with stories to tell, but sometimes it’s necessary to revamp them into a brilliant structure that retains its value.

Dan Barasch, author of Ruin and Redemption In Architecture, rightly said:

“Newly reconfigured abandoned spaces, armed with real or superficial historical references, can foster a love of history and elevate a sense of place from the practical to the ethereal. At their most successful, they will still never compare to the magical experience of simply finding a forgotten site, covered in weeds and graffiti, in all its lonely grit and rebellious glamour.”

We managed to turn a dilapidated house in London into a luxury abode. Starting with essential visual documentation, we understood a sense of space of that property from Mumbai and guided Kapil and Sweta Bhatia with a complete makeover for their London home.

To accomplish the same, we had to carefully assess their likes, wants, and needs and evaluate a house plan based on the same fixed budget they were comfortable with.

Then, of course, it was straightforward for us to calculate their 6BHK lavish abode budget with our cost estimation tool.

Creating a new house from scratch also meant deciding the aura that comes with it. With careful consultation, creative brainstorming, and long hours of deciding what features to incorporate, we transformed a plain blank canvas into a stunning piece of art, and it must be one of the most magical transformations we managed to pull off.

Here’s precisely how we transformed the drastic to decadent:

Room-wise Transformation:

Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most significant spaces in your home where you might spend at least half of your day. We decided to give an ethereal look to the kitchen by incorporating emerald marble countertops that ooze grandeur.

Moving away from the conventional into the classy, the kitchen has a stunning design with wooden and glass cabinets that perfectly accompany the marble tops.

The kitchen also comprises an elegant dining area that incorporates black hues, contrasting with white and black geometric tiled floors.

We’ve also added a skylight to the kitchen, giving more room for natural light to come in, making the kitchen one of the house’s brightest and most inviting spaces.

Bathroom

They say kitchens and bathrooms sell homes. So we’ve certainly managed to jazz it up with the bathrooms too. Each bathroom has its unique vintage/modern style with beautiful and bold colour schemes that shy away from the conventional. We’ve ditched the norm of the plain and classic and amped it up with the bold and beautiful.

Outdoor Garden

The kitchen opens up to a stunning outdoor garden that screams luxe and inviting nature. Wooden furnishings are combined with leafy greens giving a mesmerising natural feel that makes this 6 BHK cosier. A spiritual statue takes centre stage amongst the grass radiating positivity and high-energy vibes.

Living Room

We went with a minimal glam design style for the living room, where certain elements held a colour of pop and glamour while keeping the rest of the elements simple and sophisticated.

Pretty lights, sharp angles, and bold furniture are what make this living room an eye-candy to feast on.

TV Room

We opted for a sober and simple colour scheme for the TV room, making it much more classy. Adorned in beiges and whites, the TV room makes the perfect space to kick back and relax after a long tiring day.

Office

The office consists of one wall being taken up by bookshelves paired with wooden cabinets that give a classic mystery effect to the room. At the same time, the stunning task lights have been installed above the blue shelves to highlight their grandeur. A wooden study desk adjoins the shelves on one side, extending to the other side of the room.

Bedrooms

All the bedrooms look oh-so-lavish! So, with sober looks that still come off as a stunner, we decided to add a pop of colour to each room by incorporating hues into different elements to mix it up while keeping the central theme of the room a sober white for a peaceful and inviting space to the end of the day.

Kids Study

With a study room like that, how would your child not want to study all the time? The study room has a fresh appeal to it, and its bright and bold colours (just like the kids) create an appealing effect. A seating area accompanies a bookshelf on the side to curl up and read favourite books in peace.

Meditation Room

The main idea for the room speaks for itself, a quiet space to bring yourself to peace. This is Kapil and Sweta’s favourite room: high with positive vibes and gives out a zen vibe with intricate details and classy furnishing.

Mr and Mrs Bhatia said about the meditation room in their own words:

“Our favourite was the meditation room - which was not just a puja room that we see but a space which feels like a cave, giving that sense of security. One can feel the instant zen effect when one enters the room - the small intricate details added by the designers created that effect. The meditation room has wowed all our guests.”

Each room has its unique style statement, yet they are all interconnected by a common theme. This luxury 6 BHK home statement was one of our favourite projects to work on, and kudos to our lead designer Ridhi for pulling it off.

Personalised and catered to the clients’ liking, with bespoke elements scattered across the house, Kapil and Sweta Bhatia were delighted with their decision to choose Hipcouch as the designers for their humble abode.

“We tried looking for some help here (London) but unfortunately failed to get the right people. Disappointed, we had asked Hipcouch if they could step in, and we were overjoyed to know they could help us. In retrospect, that was the best decision of making this dream house!” the Bhatias told Hipcouch in a statement.
