When it comes to dolling up your abode, everyone focuses on what looks nice rather than what is the right way to make it look nice. There is a difference!

A homeowner tends to focus on decorating the home in a way it appears to be beautiful and eye-catching but what is equally important is focusing on the little details and doing it all the way right. And, this is where the interior designer into the picture. And this is the difference between a house done by an interior designer and a house decorated by the owner itself. Whereas the quality, proper execution and timely completion are the added perks.

An interior designer focuses on the little details - from balancing out the colour scheme to the placement of furniture, hanging of the artwork, planning the lighting and even positioning the curtains. A Complete Interior Designing Guide:

Here we are sharing some of our secrets to assist you to plan the interior designing process for your fab home:

#1. Fun with the scale:

Sometimes taking another approach creates an impact and makes a difference. For example, in relation to the rest of your furniture, going for a comparatively larger piece of furniture or a key accessory simply uplifts your space and creates a cosy atmosphere in the room. Hence, try upscaling a bit.

#2. A balanced colour scheme:

After getting done with the measurements, colour is the second most essential element in designing your home. Hence you can not afford to go wrong with it. The best way to do it right is to opt for a proportionate three-colour scheme. It requires you to divide your chosen colour palette into three categories -  dominant colour (60%), secondary colour (30%), accent colour (10%) and you will never go wrong.

If you wish to add a fourth colour into the mix then you can adjust the ratio with the secondary colour or the dominant colour but never interfere with the accent one.

Remember, before committing to any colour go for the swatch technique that means putting up a small patch of your wall in a particular colour and observing how that looks throughout the day in different lightings and then finalise the best. To avoid any sort of mess, use the A3 size paper sheet, paint it in different colour and stick it to your wall to test the best option.

Top Tip: Try choosing the cosy scheme i.e colour your walls in deep, rich colours and embrace the dark side.

#3. The Golden Ratio:

The mighty golden ratio is the secret behind every great piece of art. It is the same balance which is to be seen in Mother Nature. Interior designers use this rule to create a design that looks effortlessly harmonious.

It works by dividing your whole space in the ratio of 2:1. For instance, divide your whole bedroom area into two sections, two-third for one section and the remaining in one-third. Now, use the two-third portion for your bed and the side table or couch and then the remaining one-third for shelves or wardrobe. It creates a sense of balance and doesn’t feel too formal.

#4. Don’t ignore the Dining Room:

The dining area seems to be the most ignored part of the house. When the dining table gets squeezed in without any plan it seems like an afterthought. You need to choose the right table sizes to avoid bumping your elbows while eating.

Ideally, the height of the dining table should be about 74cm and there must be 45cm of legroom. Also, the space of the table with the wall should also be taken care of so that you can comfortably move. It should be about 75cm. Last but not the least, the width for each place setting has to be about 65cm.

However, the beauty of custom made furniture is that you can design the space and accordingly design your furniture.

#5. Right Lighting Sets The Mood:

Lighting is the last thing to come to the mind while designing a new home or renovating an existing one. But ideally, it should be the first and foremost thing to be planned. The right light is enough to set the right mood.

In fact, along with the right colour and brightness of the light bulbs, every single socket and switch needs to be planned before moving on to the other designing and decorating part. Make sure you choose the right mix of overhead lighting, accent lighting, task lighting, and mood lighting to help your abode look its best.

Top Tip: Bright lights are an ideal choice for bathrooms or to be used elsewhere in the daytime. Using dimmer switches gives you the power to set the brightness for each room at your own pace - either general lighting or mood lighting; installing them in every room will instantly boost the versatility of your lighting scheme.

#6. Use Whole space wisely:

You need to be wise enough while setting up the furniture. Getting rid of the “rules” is not always bad. For instance, if you have your living room in an open-plan space or the area of your room is comparatively larger,  skip placing the sofas against the walls and leaving the remaining space empty that looks out of order and weird. Instead, you can freely place the sofas and armchairs in the centre. It will also create a much more sociable seating space.

#7. The 70-30 Split:

Another smart trick for creating the right balance in your space is incorporating different styles within the same room but into specific proportions. For example, you can divide the entire room into a ratio of 70:30 and then design 70% of your room with a complete traditional scheme and the other 30% into a smattering modern, vintage or contemporary scheme or vice versa.

#8. Celebrate the ceiling:

The ceiling seems to be the deprived child in the house. The same usual, boring white with a bit of colour in the corner perhaps to add some charm.

But think this way - painting, papering or adding some mural to your ceiling can enhance the look even further. While metallic paints or faux tin tiles give it a more Art Deco look; painting the ceiling in deep dark shade will create a warm and cosy feel in the room.
