Designed & Delivered: Transforming a 3 BHK House into a Dream Home in Malabar Hill

Professional designers can make all the difference to your house, no matter how many rooms your house sports. Designing small spaces can be quite tricky, especially when it comes to creating a close-knit look that represents your personality and taste right.

However, an equally challenging task is to design a premium, spacious home which utilizes the space smartly, while ensuring it gets transformed to the perfect dream-home.

This is where a professional hand comes in.

Professional designers can help you refine and reflect all your aspirations into a design that suits the actual space available. Whether you need to create a proper functional space, rearrange existing functional and decor pieces, or remodel the interiors of a home, we at Hipcouch are always ready to turn your ideas into a reality.

Our design of a three-bedroom apartment in Malabar Hill proves our point. Here’s a sneak peek into the style we so artfully created:

Designing the Malabar Hill Apartment

We created this three-bedroom apartment in Malabar Hill in an ‘Organic- Contemporary’ style. This style plays with layers of modern architecture infused with natural materials to bring in that comfortable feel.

Here we blended sleek lines with reclaimed natural and rustic elements and essential accessories.

The Living Room:

With a trendy monochromatic palette, tailored details, and touches of whimsical rustic decor on the center table, this living room (pictured above) lives up to Ralph Lauren’s contemporary look.

The bright, preppy curtains complement well with the white and gray surfaces, and the wooden paneling on the focal wall further amplifies the look.

While we added symmetrical elements, like matching couches and specially designed center table, as a part of typical classic decor, we simultaneously tried to reduce the tautness caused by too much symmetry. So, we added a round side table, representing the trunk of a tree, to loosen the symmetrical tightness and throw in some asymmetry. We paired this with hanging succulent plants to bring in some nature into the living room.

Most well-designed living rooms contain an extraordinary element that creates a visual appeal and grabs the first attention while simultaneously making a style statement. This element can be anything from a chandelier to a striking piece of art, creating the wow factor.

We introduced an antique porch-swing in the center of the living room to steal the show. The swing is held by four classical ropes to make a traditional style statement, and the throw pillows in blue to neutral hues give it a refreshing contemporary touch.

We decided to go au naturel with the dining room windows by avoiding any drapery or screens. As common spaces like dining areas command little or no privacy, this natural look (shown below) sans draperies allows for a better influx of light into the dining space, allowing the light of the day to further into the living room and enhance its overall look.

There is one thing that can always be found adorning a living room, and that’s an elegant piece of art. The amazing leaf art on the walls here seamlessly blends with the design of the room.

Recreational Area:

We decided to revive certain features from the past, where the homes had a formal living room in addition to a more laidback TV or family room. While nothing beats the zeal filled in a living room brimming with people and the joy which comes with establishing new connections by hosting guests, the family room allows one to spend some lovely family time watching television. So, we carved out a tiny entertainment space where family members can hang out together.

The soft recessed lighting creates the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a show while munching on the savoring snacks. The wooden paneling above and below the TV creates a darker space and contrasts well with the overall cabinet so that the images on TV appear bright and crispy. The low-positioned TV is in line with the eye level of a person seated on the furniture so that he doesn’t have to strain his neck while watching TV.

The section facing the television (shown above) has been put to use with a big relaxed sofa leaving ample space to keep the feet up. The plain pillows add to that extra comfort. Going by an interior designer’s rule of thumb, a small room can give you an illusion of a larger space with an item of sizable comfortable furniture. A sectional couch, like the one we have positioned here, fits well, particularly in tiny areas.

A washroom (in the picture above) snugly fits beside the TV Unit in the recreational area. The design with a large rustic mirror and a single vanity beneath the sink looks minimalist but sophisticated.

Master Bedroom:

The airy bedroom has large windows for an inflow of natural light during the day. During the night, the rooms get lit up by a combination of ambient as well as task lighting ornamented in various styles, like wall sconces, table lamps, and recessed lamps.

A discrete reading area has been carved out with a library rack mounted on the wall and a plush recliner placed beside the large window to facilitate reading during the day time. Additionally, a floor lamp here not only adds to the opulence but also aids nighttime reading.

There is an additional television cabinet perched on the wall for nighttime viewing.

By choosing wood as the base for the bed, the side table, and other fixtures, we have perfected a slightly rustic decor to complement the scenic beauty outside.

Second Bedroom:

While the master bedroom was designed as rustic, the second bedroom was intentionally designed to be contemporary. Various shades of gray have been carefully used on the furnishings, fixtures, and flooring.

A dash of classical touch has been incorporated in the wall art shown below.

The vertical mirrors beside the wide slider windows (shown below) give an illusion of a larger space and also help reflect the daylight throughout the room.

We love this antique wood table and the quirky archaic decor on top. Each decor item seems to have veiled age-old stories within. Treasured heirlooms? Probably, yes!

The narrow corridor below is lit well and painted in light colors to appear wide.

The Kitchen:

The kitchen is deliberately designed minimal, as we wanted it to be devoid of clumsy cords and appliances. The pale green cabinets, with their brushed brass drawer and door pull, add to the cheerfulness and contrast against the backdrop of various cabinetry and appliances.

A lot of meticulous work has gone into designing the above apartment to make it both functional and fabulous, as you can see from the video attached, depicting the before and after views.

The end result: An extremely thrilled and happy client!
