5 Adorable Kids Room Decorating Ideas for 2020

As a designer, designing a kids bedroom is one of the best parts of the process. It is the perfect place to explore all the imaginary ideas – from stars on the ceiling to polka dot wallpapers, you can never have too many things happening in a kids bedroom.

A bedroom for the kids should be designed and decorated in a way that lets the child dream beyond limits, to create a surrounding that will wake-up your child’s brain.

A beautifully designed kids bedroom often makes an adult want to be a kid again.

Here are 5 ideas that will make your little one’s room look lusciously-promising and uber-cool

1. Keep it spacious

It is very important to keep your kid’s room spacious and furniture-clutter free, for kids have a huge clutter of their own (toys, books). The best way to do this is, to minimize the 2nd biggest furniture in the room, the bed. If the room is meant for not more than one, we’d suggest using a single bed which turns into a sofa cum bed every time your kid’s friend is staying over.

This way there is more floor space for the kid to play, run, build a Lego city, build a dollhouse etc. However, if you have more than one kid sharing the room, there’s no better idea than using a murphy bed. A murphy bed is a bed which folds into a wall, when not in use, and collapses into a bed during sleep hours.

2. Adding character to the walls

A plain white wall can look very drab for a kids room. You can enhance it by using a tropical wallpaper or a glow in the dark wallpaper. You can even get a custom wallpaper of your kid’s favorite cartoon character or a superhero, they look very cool and the kids love it. You can make a Lego wall if your kids are Lego lovers. This way they can build a Lego building / animals on the wall all day and not get bored. This also enhances creativity and the will to explore in the kid.

3. A piece of furniture that happens to be the kids most disliked one- A study

You will often find your kid not studying on the designated study table, rather studying all over the house, on the bed, on the floor, on the dining table, everywhere but the study table. This can be a result of a very boring looking study.

Adding interesting shelves, colours to the study table, shapes and forms can interest the kid is actually studying at the table. You can have a house-shaped shelf above the study, arcs and colourful backsplash, animal-shaped chair, and so many more.

4. Play of colours

Colours affect the bodily functions, mind and emotion with the energy produced by light, Studies conducted clearly demonstrate the benefits of colours where the development of the brain, creativity, productivity and learning are concerned.

In addition to affecting our mind and emotion, colours also add to the ambience of the room, making it look cold or warm, big or small.

It is very important to add colours to kids room because they spend most of their time in that room, be it while sleeping, playing amongst themselves, studying etc. There are two ways of doing this, adding a combination of a few pastel shades or adding one bright colour to the room, too many bright colours might confuse the child.

You can add colours to the wall in a traditional way by painting the whole wall a single colour, or you can play with patterns and shapes on the wall.

5. Creating creative corners

Kids need their space to think or play to themselves or read without any disturbance. If the space permits, you can create interesting reading nooks, and cubby or tiny den for the kids to enjoy to themselves.

It can be a pop in the room or it can blend with the other pieces in the room. The chance of your kid entering the cubby and not leaving it willingly are very high because it’s such a comfortable and cosy nook.
