6 Tips to Make the most Amusing & Fun Room for Your Teenager

A teenager is someone transitioning to adulthood from childhood. They’re not done with the pampering yet, but knocking the doors reserved for adults. In such a case, their bedroom is simply not a room but their ‘own’ zone where they can be themselves. It should be functional and versatile enough to give them the vibe of a bedroom yet playful enough for them to just spend most of their time comfortably.

While designing a bedroom for your teenaged kid, you should ideally sit with them and brainstorm  ideas as to how their ideal room should look like. In this article, we bring you a list of some handy hacks to help you out.

1. Choose Bold Walls

Teenage is the stage in life when your child is vibrant, full of energy, and has that constant desire to experiment with every other thing around and the bedroom is no different. By choosing bolder and creative wall art, you can give your kids their own ‘space’ where they can simply express themselves.

To create such a space for your kid, you can use various creative ways for wall decor - bright colourful paints, geometric designs or patterns, artistic wallpapers, Removable wall decals, wall art or simple carvings of their favourite quote in neon or lighted marquee signs.

2. Embrace the Comfort

A bedroom is a place where one can crash after a long hectic day and a teenager is someone darting about and dabbling multiple things from studies, to friends, and aspirations. They require space to unwind peacefully and take life as it’s happening.

Nothing represents peace and comfort better than a bedroom. Try to make the room as comfy as you can. You can use more cute stuff and feel-good fabrics in the room such as a cute faux fur rug, soft fluffy mattresses, soft throw pillows, hanging fringe or patterned curtains, etc.

3. Think Smart when it comes to Storage

Never expect an organised room from a teenager. Yes, they keep on hustling and in the end lose track of their tiny stuff. Being on a safer side, create some smart storage options in their bedroom so that it is easier for them to keep the room clean and not to lose their things.

Some of the functional storage design options are under the bed storage bins, cabinet wall around the bed, dressing table cum shelf or separate shelving, etc.

4.  Select a theme

Every kid has their own personality and choices. The only common thing is passion; for some , it’s football or cricket and for others, it could be the fastest cars or for some, it’s the Disney princesses and their cute little fantasy world.

The best idea is to customise the room as per their personality or liking\. You can simply create a theme around the bedroom and have  customised furniture, walls, decor and other furnishings around that very theme.

5. Just Swing It

What’s even teenage without a swing? You can always incorporate a swing in a teenage bedroom to give it a lively and vibrant feel. It could be a swinging chair, swinging bed or just a simple swing hanging in the balcony outside the bedroom for your child to soak in the sun or simply enjoy the monsoon.

6. That Cozy Corner

Think of creating a cozy corner dedicated to “me” time. It could be a tiny play zone, musical corner, study table or work area or even a small “chilling zone” for your kids to socialise or have fun with the friends.

For instance, a pillow-lined bed tucked into a corner just to chill with friends. It saves up on space. Just pile-up some cushions and get yourself comfortable!
